Located in Dongjiaotou, Shekou, Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint is currently the largest road port for passengers and cargo in Asia, connecting via the Shenzhen Bay Bridge to Yuen Long Highway. The checkpoint covers an area of over 110 hectares, and has separate clearance areas for passengers, cargo, and private cars. For passengers, the hours of operation are 6:30am – 24:00, whilst for cargo, the checkpoint operates 24 hours for customs clearance.
To alleviate the customs clearance pressure on land between Mainland China and Hong Kong, convenient transportation and customs clearance between Shenzhen and Hong Kong is essential in promoting trade and economic exchanges, and the common economic development of the two places. Both Shenzhen Bay Port and Liantang Port are important components in the implementation of cross-border freight between Shenzhen and Hong Kong.
