Tuen Mun–Chek Lap Kok Link Tunnel, Highways Department
Elephant has recently completed two projects for the Highways Department’s infrastructure project; both are for Tuen Mun – Chek Lap Kok Link, Northern Connection Tunnel. The first is the installation of the public address system in all Service Galleries and Tunnel Buildings, spanning a distance of over 6 km and 7 buildings; the second is a 2 x 2-panel video wall that enables the traffic control centre to see feeds from all CCTV cameras along the tunnel.
The Tuen Mun-Chek Lap Kok Link provides a strategic linkage between the Northwest New Territories and the Hong Kong Boundary Crossing Facilities (HKBCF), the North Lantau and the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA).
The 9 km long dual two-lane carriageway consists two major sections: the Southern Section which connects the HKBCF and North Lantau on viaducts, and the Northern Section which connects Tuen Mun Area 40 with the HKBCF via a sub-sea tunnel.
The strategic link reduces the travelling time between Tuen Mun South and HKIA from 30 minutes to 10 minutes. It not only helps divert traffic flows to relieve the existing traffic conditions of North Lantau, the Lantau Link and Tuen Mun Road, but also provides an alternative route to the airport, thus reinforcing the HKIA as a regional aviation hub.
The video wall and public address system installed between the different sections of the Tuen Mun-Chek Lap Kok tunnel support the real-time monitoring of tunnel operations in the traffic control center.
