Description
The Aberdeen Tunnel links Happy Valley and Wong Chuk Hang near Aberdeen on the Hong Kong Island. It shortens the travel time between Wong Chuk Hang and Causeway Bay of the Hong Kong Island, and connects the Wong Chuk Hang Road and Canal Road Flyover in the Hong Kong Island.
The toll plaza in Wong Chuk Hang has 12 toll booths, of which 8 were manned, and 4 used auto-toll passes.
Before the launch of the MTR Island South line, the Aberdeen Tunnel was the major link that the residents of Aberdeen, Ap Lei Chau and Wong Chuk Hang heavily relied on to commute to Causeway Bay, North Point, and other areas on the Hong Kong Island, as well as the two cross-harbour tunnels. In 2016, an average of 63,646 vehicles passed through the tunnel daily.
