Tseung Kwan O – Lam Tin Tunnel -
Description
The Tseung Kwan O – Lam Tin Tunnel is a dual two-lane highway, 2.2 kilometers of which is a tunnel connecting Tseung Kwan O and East Kowloon. The Tseung Kwan O-Lam Tin Tunnel, together with the T2 Trunk Road in the Kai Tak Development Area and the Central Kowloon Route, will form together Route 6 in the highways network, providing a fast track to connect West Kowloon and Tseung Kwan O. The tunnel is a straight passage through the underground layer of Chiu Keng Wan Shan east of Devil’s Peak, and has branch tunnels that connect directly to the Eastern Harbour Crossing.
After the Tseung Kwan O-Lam Tin Tunnel’s official opening on 11 December, 2022, the Tseung Kwan O Tunnel is no longer the only road tunnel that leads out of Tseung Kwan O. At the same time, the original Tseung Kwan O Tunnel’s capacity is now freed up for vehicles on the roads from Hang Hau, Tseung Kwan O North, Clear Water Bay and Sai Kung. With the Lam Tin Tunnel, it now only takes five minutes to arrive at the Eastern Harbour Crossing from Tseung Kwan O city centre, Lohas Park and Tseung Kwan O Innovation Park, which is ten minutes less than the previous route. The journey too, is reduced from 7 km to about 4.2 km.
Elephant has completed two projects for the tunnel. The first is the installation of the public address system in the tunnel, kiosks, Administration, East and West Ventilation Buildings, spanning a distance of over 2.2 km and 3 buildings; the second is a 2 x 2-panel video wall that enables the traffic control centre to view feeds from all CCTV cameras along the tunnel.
